Northam Administration Outlines Gun Control Measures It Backs Including Assault Weapons Ban With Permits For Existing Owners

Via David Codrea, this bit of non-news from Virginia.

RICHMOND — The Northam administration threw its weight Thursday behind the eight proposals it will back on gun control this legislative session, including a ban on assault weapons defined as any semiautomatic rifle or pistol with a magazine that holds more than 10 rounds.

The Northam-backed bill would go into effect in July, but would allow people who already own an assault weapon to obtain a permit from the state for restricted use. Without a permit, the guns would have to be disposed of, surrendered or made inoperable by January 2021.

[ … ]

It is different from a bill filed by Senate Majority Leader Dick Saslaw, D-Fairfax, which does not include a “grandfather” provision for current owners of weapons deemed “assault weapons.” The lack of such a provision in Saslaw’s bill has raised concerns among some gun-rights backers about confiscation. Saslaw has said his bill will be amended in committee to “resolve some problems.”

[ … ]

The definition of an assault weapon, under this bill, also includes features like a folding or telescoping stock, and thumbhole stock, a second grip and barrel that can hold a silencer or extender. The bill also classifies a semiautomatic pistol that weighs more than 50 ounces unloaded as an assault weapon.

Uh huh.  “Resolve some problems.”  I’ll bet.

So I lied.  We do learn something from this.  The ban includes all or most large frame semi-automatic pistols, perhaps leaving some compacts and sub-compacts alone as long as they are single stack or have limited capacity magazines.

Resolve some problems.  Something tells me there will be massive non-compliance with this, so the next question on all of our minds is what happens next?  What will the 2A sanctuary counties do?  See, this was never going to be door-to-door confiscations.  It was always going to be about traffic stops, red flag visits in the middle of the night based on social media entries, etc., etc.  Will gun owners support each other or let the state pick them off one-by-one?

The next steps are sure to come.  So get on with it.

So, your neighbor won’t be able to complain about his emotional state being adversely affected by your possession of a firearm. However, State employees, like Law Imposement, who have vested interest in wielding power over their fellow citizens, can and will use it to disarm ANYONE they DEEM TO BE a threat to themselves. That means, boy and girls, this will have the widest possible application. Whatcha wanna bet Law Imposement, and State and County Attorneys, will rarely if ever apply this new tool to themselves? Any takers?

Think again. “any semiautomatic rifle or pistol with a magazine that holds more than 10 rounds.” Did you know you can get 25 round mags for 1911’s? Madda of fact, ANY mag fed semi-auto “could” accept an altered mag of 11 rounds. So this is a mag fed gun ban. 1022? Ruger makes 25 round mags. All that will be “contraband”. The Fudds might be safe for a bit with their precious over/unders, but I’m sure the fascists VA elected will get rid of them soon.

Hahahaaa… that means the neighbor, ex-spouse, or random person who looked up your name in the phone book goes to law enforcement or the commonwealth’s attorney’s, and they get the “protective order”.

The most recent bills proposed are to make the state capital, in toto, a gun free zone. Also, there’s a bill to prohibit privately owned gun ranges, with the state government taking possession of those they want, ruining those they don’t want.

There are two tribes behind these bills, (((one))) has weaponized the other. I’ll leave them unnamed. I will suggest that everyone look up the state legislators proposing and sponsoring these bills, you will immediately see the tribes involved.

    @Fiftycal,

Well, if you’re talking about something like mags from Wilson Combat, I concur that they might not be allowed. I am assuming that as long as the weapon itself isn’t configured for that, it will be deemed acceptable, but one never knows.

On the other hand, I don’t think it really matters that much since no one will comply. It will only matter when they try to do this one by one, and then it will REALLY matter what Virginians do.

@Herschel Smith. It will depend on the actual wording of the bill and how anti-gun the bureaucrats enforcing the “rules” are. But I Don’t think your hope that the way it was “configured” matters. Otherwise you could say, “well, my AR came with a 10 round mag, so it isn’t banned”. And any competent machine shop “could” take any mag, add a short extension and viola’ “high capacity”. Never depend on the promises of fascist/socialists. They have but one goal. Power. And until they disarm the people, their dream of a socialist utopia cannot happen.

The strategy and tactical elements of isolation, selecting vulnerable easy low hanging fruit targets, picking us off piecemeal is a sticky wicket so to say. With any appreciable resistance thru some form or forms of mutual support there will be a considerable restraining or blocking effect.
You always have to keep in mind no matter what these despots and those they hold the leashes they will sic upon, those who are willing to do their masters biding and dirty work, there simply is not enough of them. They only have power of the barrel of their guns, and the illusion of power to force people to comply via an illusion of legitimacy.
On the other-hand, our primal natural rights of self defense, and all resistance to such measures to deny us our sovereign liberty is the most legitimate thing imaginable.

    Rough concept:
All voluntary participation via grass roots open source mutual alert system where by anytime somebody triggers an alert signal others can come to their assistance. It would require alerting to exact location and some basic details.
At the very least assistance at the location would be a prohibitive factor for “law” enforcement, saving lives and inhibiting use of violence, various transgressions/trespasses of the defacto law type…

Be lots of details to figure out, how to develop anti COIN tactic/strategy features, following the KISS system, etc.

Lot of things have changed since the first trespasses against our primal natural freedoms in this age we are in. Never discount the effects of righteous lawful redress and resistance on the moral and willingness of others to take part in acts of total defiance. American’s of the Freeman kind all love winners and winning. And sometimes all thats required to start a grass roots fire of resistance to tyranny is the spark that yes, you are not alone, there is a Legion of Freemen just like you out there, and that thru actions of solidarity incredible things are accomplished.
Remember too, 4th generation war, no matter it’s form or substance, it’s cause, is rooted in the legitimacy or really, illegitimacy of the state and most particularly it’s actors and agents.
As we all who have a mind to see, the “elites” are facing a vast crisis of legitimacy. The proof is right there for all to see. They would not be attempting these acts of disarming us if they where legitimate in their actions.

Cuomo, the evil bastard, set the precedent and defined the template seven years ago with his “SAFE” Act. It is going to be copied in EVERY Democrat-controlled state, and eventually going to be copied by the federal government.

And you know what? IT WORKED. Men with six-year-old children in the first grade, wives who are PTA members, $50,000 trucks and $300,000 houses are NOT going to shoot the cops and shoot the politicians because they can no longer buy an 11-rd magazine or an AR-15… or because the cops confiscated SOMEONE ELSE’S gun. He will bitch and moan and protest, but he will not pick up that rifle and use it for it’s intended purpose. Because if he DOES, they will send the SWAT team in the MRAP to kill him and shoot his dog, and if he survives, they will accuse him of “domestic terrorism,” convict him, and he will get life without parole, or death. They will threaten his crying, screaming wife and accuse her of being an “accomplice to terrorism” and threaten her with thirty years. They will put his six-year-old in foster care. They will seize his bank account and put a lien on his home; if he has any money left his lawyers will take it and leave his wife destitute while he is in prison, if they do not put her in prison as well.

To avoid this, he will either register his rifle, or make it compliant by eliminating the pistol grip and the flash hider. Then in a few years, the next step will be to BAN GUN PARTS so it will be impossible to make a “compliant” build any more… which is EXACTLY what Cuomo is doing now that all eyes are on Richmond.

THE WHITE MAN WILL NOT FIGHT BACK, AND “THEY” KNOW IT.

Cuomo is not only still breathing, he was elected TWICE MORE after doing this. And he got the support of half the “Republicans” in the State Senate.

They’re not afraid of us. They have us by the balls and they know it. They’re going to cram this down our throats. The only people who MIGHT shoot back are going to be the unhinged types who have nothing to lose — no kids, no house, no wife, no money. And you know what??? That’s EXACTLY what “THEY” want. James Hodgskinson got completely memory-holed by the (((media))) he tried to assassinate the entire Republican leadership… because he was a left-wing Bernie Sanders nut.

But they WANT some gun-rights guy on the Right to do something similar, so they can use it as a “Reichstag fire” to go balls-to-the wall and to impose a bigger police state than they’ve already got.

This is a trap. There’s no way out that I can see so far. They’re going to keep pushing and pushing until someone snaps back, and then use that to say “See? THIS is why we need to confiscate guns.” And all the college girls and media whores and soccer mom-voters will squeal and say “Oooohhh, we’ll vote for you if you KEEP US SAFE from all those right-wing Klan militias!!!”

I wish I had a better answer but I don’t. You don’t have a fucking Constitution. You don’t have any fucking rights. You don’t have any freedom. You live in a communist country, and white men are willing to put up with it because they have porn and football and cable TV.

I am not a troll. I wish I was wrong about this. But the past twenty years have shown that the welfare-state Leviathan is going to crush us all in the name of equality and diversity and faggotry and whoredom and transgenderism and negritude. NOT ONE white man in the UK or Australia or Canada or New Zealand or New York or California or Massachusetts fought back against this. NOT ONE.

In spite of what “they” want to believe or say; WE BUILT THIS F*CKER. It’s ours, and no, ‘they’ can’t effing have it. And don’t give me that crap about melting pots and diversity helped build America, yeah, sure, some were here, but we built this and dang near everything in it – and please stop with the examples of other countries, or New York or California or wherever. Every place and every individual is different. And when schtuff gets ugly and painful – bet that more than a few ‘old white guys’ say “eff this” and begin to cull the herd. It won’t just be one guy – this ain’t those other places. I guess we’ll see. Be safe and blessed.

No, an event like that is always contrived with ‘actors’. Nothing is left to chance when a certain event is going to be made to happen for the narrative. Like the snipers on both the police and protestor sides in Ukraine during the Maidan Protests.
