Did COVID-19 Originate In A Chinese Lab?

So where did the virus-carrying bats come from? The paper says this, quote: “We screened the area around the market and identified two laboratories conducting research on bat coronavirus.” Within a few hundred yards of the wet market was something called the Wuhan Center for Disease Control and Prevention. According to public reports, the center used Intermediate Horseshoe Bats for research. About seven miles away was another facility, called the Wuhan Institute of Virology. The virology institute also conducted research on Intermediate Horseshoe Bats.

South China University scientists concluded that the Coronavirus pandemic likely came from one of these two labs. They noted that a scientist at the Wuhan Center for Disease Control and Prevention had been exposed to the blood and urine of bats. They also suggested that infected tissue samples from research animals may have wound up in the Wuhan wet market. They ended their paper this way. Quote: “The killer coronavirus probably originated from a laboratory in Wuhan. Safety levels may need to be reinforced in high risk, bio-hazardous laboratories. Regulations may be taken to relocate these laboratories far away from city center and other densely populated places.” End quote.

That’s what I have believed from the beginning, it is what I believe today, and it’s what I will always believe unless someone presents clear and convincing evidence that persuades me to relinquish my belief.

Hence the gigantic scope of counterfeiting of U.S. and other western products, even as the Chinese government wrings its hands and says nothing can be done about it. The building in of software “backdoors” into microprocessors and other electronic devices which allow Chinese operatives to hack into our most-sensitive electronics and communications. Beijing-backed drug cartels flooding the U.S. with cheap and highly-addictive opioids and other potent pharmaceuticals. And so forth.

Wuhan is probably a “black site” for Chinese military bio-weapons research, i.e., a facility for such disguised as a typical private sector life sciences R&D firm. This is unremarkable in itself; all major nations maintain such facilities – or did as recently as the Cold War. Fort Detrick, Maryland, is one such facility maintained by the U.S. government; there are many others.

The real question, as stated by the author, is whether the virus was released intentionally, or by accident. The foregoing examples do not paint a pretty picture regarding the capabilities and intentions of the Chinese Communist Party mandarins in Beijing. “Unrestricted warfare” probably includes WMDs – including biological and chemical weapons, as well as radioactive and nuclear devices.

Hanlon’s razor applies, however: Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. Sometimes, bad things happen not because of people having bad intentions, but because they did not think it through properly. Regardless, it seems that Beijing will have much for which to answer when that time comes.

While it is possible, even likely, that the ordinary Chinese who populate that vast nation don’t, per se, want war with the U.S. – the leadership in Beijing is another matter entirely. The wars in Korea and Vietnam weren’t all that long ago, and the senior Chi-Com leaders, political and military alike, are fully-prepared to lose a couple of hundred million people in order to realize their geopolitical goals. Communist China, after all, has people in abundance – and like the Soviet leadership in WWII, the Chinese Communist Party are not accountable to their people when it comes to high battlefield casualties.

Luckily for the civilized world, there are plenty of means short of war by which this matter can be resolved. But much will ride on the attitude of the Chinese leadership. If they are sincerely contrite and wish to make proper redress for whatever wrongdoings have occurred, then things can move forward constructively. If, however, if face and their dignity are involved, and they dig in their heels – then things could go badly.

Good assessment. I know a Chinese guy at work, originally from Beijing, but has lived here for many years. He hopes that this pandemic will bring down the CCP. Others have analogized this event to Chernobyl, which could be seen as lighting the fuse which led to the downfall of the USSR. One can hope….

I thought I was angry when baby bush nationalized the banks, this is a whole new level of hatred toward this country’s leaders that’s brewing. May the Lord afflict them all.

I don’t necessarily agree with it as a normative statement, either, but included it to remind readers that not everything occurs because of malign intentions. If there is anything in humans which matches their capacity for malice, it is their capacity for stupidity. Nor are the Chinese immune from that particular problem.

To clear the air, I definitely attribute malice to the communist government in the PRC; I thought the examples I provided made that quite evident. Ordinary Chinese are not, in my view, quite as clear-cut a situation. Granted, many will have been propagandized into hatred of the U.S., but there are also undoubtedly some who have seen through such efforts and/or who wish to maintain good relations with the U.S. for self-interested reasons.
