Did COVID-19 Originate In A Chinese Lab?

BY Herschel Smith

PJM.

So where did the virus-carrying bats come from? The paper says this, quote: “We screened the area around the market and identified two laboratories conducting research on bat coronavirus.” Within a few hundred yards of the wet market was something called the Wuhan Center for Disease Control and Prevention. According to public reports, the center used Intermediate Horseshoe Bats for research. About seven miles away was another facility, called the Wuhan Institute of Virology. The virology institute also conducted research on Intermediate Horseshoe Bats.

South China University scientists concluded that the Coronavirus pandemic likely came from one of these two labs. They noted that a scientist at the Wuhan Center for Disease Control and Prevention had been exposed to the blood and urine of bats. They also suggested that infected tissue samples from research animals may have wound up in the Wuhan wet market. They ended their paper this way. Quote: “The killer coronavirus probably originated from a laboratory in Wuhan. Safety levels may need to be reinforced in high risk, bio-hazardous laboratories. Regulations may be taken to relocate these laboratories far away from city center and other densely populated places.” End quote.

That’s what I have believed from the beginning, it is what I believe today, and it’s what I will always believe unless someone presents clear and convincing evidence that persuades me to relinquish my belief.

Huh, I guess getting cheap widgets and doodads from China might not be worth the cost after all.

It is pretty certain this is not a random virus, the only question I still have is whether it escaped through sheer Commie incompetence or was released intentionally.

Apropos assessing the intentions of the Chi-Coms, it is germane to note that the People’s Liberation Army-Navy, which what they call their armed forces, has been war-gaming since the 1990s with the United States as its presumptive opponent.

Much like the Japanese did in the decades and years leading up to the Second World War – “Great War in the Pacific” – the Chinese Navy has for many years now considered the U.S. Navy its primary foe, and has developed tactics, strategy and doctrine upon that basis. Not to mention weapons specifically-designed to attack the assets of the U.S. and its Allied sister navies.

in 1998, two Chinese Army Colonels, Qiao Liang and Wang Xiangsui, published a book/monograph entitled “Unrestricted Warfare,” in which they set forth their vision of how the PRC should take on and ultimately defeat her enemies, using not only traditional kinetic military means, “bullets and bombs,” but all other means – cultural, political, economic, fiscal, scientific/technical, etc. – at her disposal.

Nor were these activities to be confined by western notions of ethics, legality, fair play or the rules of war. Either through special units of the PLAN or via surrogates such as North Korea, China’s communist party was fully-prepared to pursue criminal as well as legal, above-board means in her quest.

Hence the gigantic scope of counterfeiting of U.S. and other western products, even as the Chinese government wrings its hands and says nothing can be done about it. The building in of software “backdoors” into microprocessors and other electronic devices which allow Chinese operatives to hack into our most-sensitive electronics and communications. Beijing-backed drug cartels flooding the U.S. with cheap and highly-addictive opioids and other potent pharmaceuticals. And so forth.

Wuhan is probably a “black site” for Chinese military bio-weapons research, i.e., a facility for such disguised as a typical private sector life sciences R&D firm. This is unremarkable in itself; all major nations maintain such facilities – or did as recently as the Cold War. Fort Detrick, Maryland, is one such facility maintained by the U.S. government; there are many others.

The real question, as stated by the author, is whether the virus was released intentionally, or by accident. The foregoing examples do not paint a pretty picture regarding the capabilities and intentions of the Chinese Communist Party mandarins in Beijing. “Unrestricted warfare” probably includes WMDs – including biological and chemical weapons, as well as radioactive and nuclear devices.

Hanlon’s razor applies, however: Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. Sometimes, bad things happen not because of people having bad intentions, but because they did not think it through properly. Regardless, it seems that Beijing will have much for which to answer when that time comes.

While it is possible, even likely, that the ordinary Chinese who populate that vast nation don’t, per se, want war with the U.S. – the leadership in Beijing is another matter entirely. The wars in Korea and Vietnam weren’t all that long ago, and the senior Chi-Com leaders, political and military alike, are fully-prepared to lose a couple of hundred million people in order to realize their geopolitical goals. Communist China, after all, has people in abundance – and like the Soviet leadership in WWII, the Chinese Communist Party are not accountable to their people when it comes to high battlefield casualties.

Luckily for the civilized world, there are plenty of means short of war by which this matter can be resolved. But much will ride on the attitude of the Chinese leadership. If they are sincerely contrite and wish to make proper redress for whatever wrongdoings have occurred, then things can move forward constructively. If, however, if face and their dignity are involved, and they dig in their heels – then things could go badly.

Good assessment. I know a Chinese guy at work, originally from Beijing, but has lived here for many years. He hopes that this pandemic will bring down the CCP. Others have analogized this event to Chernobyl, which could be seen as lighting the fuse which led to the downfall of the USSR. One can hope….

I’m with you on the source but believe that it is probably some idiot sold contaminated bat to the market thinking it was uncontaminated. Inside the lab both would have been destroyed safely but someone wanted some extra cash and, what harm can it do it’s the uncontaminated stuff? I also suspect that is known to the Chinese and that person is no longer with us.

I don’t attribute this to intentional malice. I believe either somebody screwed up in one of their labs and walked out of there infected – or, more likely – greed. I’ve heard several Chinese sources talk about how the lab animals were often sold at markets instead of thrown in the incinerator.

Apropos that this whole mess is due to a greedy Chinaman trying to cheat a few extra yen.

If Americans would hack up babies and sell the parts, why wouldn’t a Chicom sell diseased bats?

What’s being done to America has nothing to do with a virus, not that it can’t kill you. I’m far more concerned about domestic enemies than the Chicoms, which I should note, have very good reasons to see the US as the primary military threat in that region, because we threaten everybody there all the year long every year decade after decade. I know, I’ve been among those doing the threatening on behalf of your, oh so, innocent and loving government. Pfft.

If destroying the US economy does’t kill coronavirus maybe america should just nuke itself. Total fascio-socialist-commie trash runs america. This is their big day. China isn’t the threat here, the virus isn’t the threat here (not that it can’t kill you), your government is the primary threat here and greatest danger to you and your family in this.

What will they do with the non-essentials? Maybe starve them, gulag labor camps? That’s what they always do. Make sure that you have your affairs in order so they know where to send the bill for the bullet to your head.

I thought I was angry when baby bush nationalized the banks, this is a whole new level of hatred toward this country’s leaders that’s brewing. May the Lord afflict them all.

So now there are still 2 unanswered questions. Was it done deliberately, by one or more persons employed there? Was it done with the knowledge and approval of someone in the Chinese government/Communist Party? Anyone think they wouldn’t willingly sacrifice a few million or even a hundred million of their own if the end game was throwing the world into chaos, ruining the Western economies, with a few hundred thousand dead in the US, with them sitting on top of the pyramid when the dust settles?

@Snuffy, good questions. Of course the US government response to the Chinese communists is to make america full commie. Remember 9/11, they hate us for our freedom so we’ll take away our freedom. Long contagious period before symptoms reveal the disease.
    Very high level of contagion.
Where it went wrong is it broke containment before the Chinese had a vacination shot ready.

I don’t necessarily agree with it as a normative statement, either, but included it to remind readers that not everything occurs because of malign intentions. If there is anything in humans which matches their capacity for malice, it is their capacity for stupidity. Nor are the Chinese immune from that particular problem.

To clear the air, I definitely attribute malice to the communist government in the PRC; I thought the examples I provided made that quite evident. Ordinary Chinese are not, in my view, quite as clear-cut a situation. Granted, many will have been propagandized into hatred of the U.S., but there are also undoubtedly some who have seen through such efforts and/or who wish to maintain good relations with the U.S. for self-interested reasons.

The Chinese destroyed the genome after the bat story came out. In all likelihood it was a re-engineered bat virus that was being tested on a primate. Then got back doored to the meat market by the guy that was suppose to incinerate it. (Hey,just make sure you cook that fully, OK?)
The big story will come after we map the genome to see if it was engineered. That long a incubation/spread time is almost prefect for a bio-weapon.
