NRA Comments On Proposed Bump Stock Ban

NRA Comments:

ATF could provide one or more 90-day periods of amnesty for the registration of bump fire stocks. While there are some additional complications due to the lack of markings on bump fire stocks, Congress has delegated broad discretion to determine the scope and requirements of any amnesty. ATF already has experience with firearms marking issues for individuals who are not federal firearm licensees. (Every time a non-licensee makes an NFA “firearm,” the maker must mark the firearm in compliance with federal law.)

In addition to providing amnesty for bump fire stocks, ATF should consider a broader amnesty for “machinegun[s].” When Congress delegated the authority to provide for additional periods of amnesty, there was a clear legislative understanding that amnesty generally serves the purposes of federal firearms laws by bringing “machinegun[s]” and other NFA “firearms” that are currently contraband, and therefore likely to eventually end up in the wrong hands, into the legal market where they have value and are extremely unlikely to be used in crime.

How do you like that?  The same gun control organization that suggested the bump stock ban to Trump to begin with is now suggesting that the ATF allow amnesty to register these things as NFA items.  And not only that, if there are any extant machine guns out there, we should get those registered as well.

The NRA.  The largest, most powerful gun control organization on earth.

There a bunch of videos on YouTube (or at least there used to be) showing how to achieve the bump stock result merely by the way you hold the gun. It works on any semi-automatic rifle with enough recoil, but you might not want to try it on a .308.

Yeah, Riiiight.. Like Anyone with an ‘Untaxed’ Belt-Fed is going to want to ‘register’ it…

Remember, Folks, the NRA SUPPORTED the non-Constitutional NFA and Many other bull$hit ‘laws’ restricting the “Right of the People to Keep and Bear Arms”.

When will the NRA demand the immediate and total repeal of all gun laws in the US?

Fred- NEVER! They would be Out of Jobs! That’s the biggest ‘Tell’ about how they are just another Scam ‘non-Profit org.’ I belonged to it for a while starting back in the early 70’s, but when the Infighting began among the ‘directors’, I dropped out, because it was Obvious this org wasn’t doing anything but ‘Lip Service’ to the Constitution.

Anyone who Can’t (or Won’t) understand that the Second Amendment absolutely Prohibits ALL ‘gun control’ is either Dumber than a Box of Rocks, or a communist.

    @Herschel,

While the NRA is indeed making the case for an amnesty, just compensation, etc, don’t overlook the fact that Section 1 of their comments deals with the dichotomy of the current statutory definition of “machine gun” and the proposed new ATF definition with its attendant problems.

I see their comments as “Hey, what you’re proposing is in violation of statutory law but if you insist on playing that potentially losing hand we’d like to recommend the following ideas.”

I bet a lot of people here have read “Unintended Consequences” and are thinking the same. If they do do a amnesty for machine-guns, I’m buying a lot of pipes and calling them STEN guns.

Pat, my uncle was just here, asking to borrow my origional copy of UC. Also,we realized 20 plus years ago that the NRA, does not represent my expectations. We retired from the NRA back then.

Oddly enough it seems like weekly we get request from them asking for a small amount of my cash.

NRA hasn’t been relivant for years and years and years. Just a bunch of, loosers trying to butter their own bread.

If you got a guy as President of an organization who says that if you want a machine gun, join the service, you got a mouthpiece for the govt. Oliver North and the NRA no more represent the people or the Second Amendment, than does the defunct Politburo of the USSR.

    The National Registration Advocates.

Years ago, as a member of the press, I interviewed Wayne LaPierre at an event in Denver where he spoke on the same platform with HCI and the infamous Brady family, advocating FOR a “rat out your neighbor” hotline.

(I asked for a repeat of the phone number during the Q&A; “was it 1-800-GESTAPO?” I queried.)

When I later informed him I was an NRA Life Member, but wondered what he thought about “shall not be infringed,” he walked off in a huff.

That’s why we have Gun Owners of America. They are arguably the most effective pro gun organization by far, and a huge percentage of their budget actually goes into outreach and legal battles rather than the huge salaries and perks found at the NRA. They are known for not giving an inch in the battle to preserve and regain our GOD GIVEN rights. Check them out at http://www.gunowners.org and you’ll see what I mean.
