Ohio cop shoots harmless golden retriever with its tail waging then continues shooting the dog as it flees the violent officer

BY Herschel Smith

This is a sickening video.  For heaven’s sake – it’s a golden retriever.  It’s a golden!  How is that guy in any danger?  Have you ever been around goldens before?  That dog was desperate to make a new friend, that’s all.

That idiot cop deserved all of the opprobrium he got, and much more.

I just don’t know what to say any more.  Perhaps people will start to wise up rather than the usual, silly, mistaken “back the blue” mantra we hear everywhere.  Heroes of the community.

I have tried so hard to explain to those who would listen that you simply cannot keep up the same things and have any community respect at all.  Universal hatred of you and what you do will be dangerous for you, making you even more paranoid and mentally unstable than you currently are.

I’ve given suggestions to the police before and then even again.  Work as a hired hand on a farm or ranch, or even better, be a volunteer to some farmer or rancher who needs the help.  Learn to bale hay; lean to be a Farrier; learn to doctor animals; learn to train dogs; learn to care for animals.

But it seems that they hire the lowest IQ, least mentally stable, and most dangerous to mankind and beasts they can find.  As long as this is the case, they will only increase community hatred for themselves.

Again I say, you’re never in more danger than when the police are around.  Get away from them as quickly as possible – you, your family and your beasts.  There is never a situation so bad and so dire that it cannot be made worse by the presence of the police.

As for me, I know how to handle dogs, and I would have been buddies with that dog in less than a second.  I’m not a dog handler (although I could be), I’m just a normal American male.  Cops apparently are not.

I’m with you on this one. The state of affairs is as you say: you are never in more danger.

It is a horrible thing but I think I know why the dog was shot. Everyone knows that Goldens are never vicious. If the cop thought it was he is too stupid to dress himself. The dog obviously wanted to play with a new arrival. The cop shot the dog because he did not want to get his uniform dirty.

When I was working on many occasions I was confronted with dogs that wanted to play or just check you out. Like Herschel says you can be their buddies in about one minute. As some of them were running toward me I recall thinking, OK I just started the day and now I will have a soiled uniform. It was something to laugh about.

    The cop is a sociopath.

Badgemonkeys kill a family pet on average once every 90 minutes in America. This happens 24 hours a day 7 days a week. They do it because they can. As always they are NEVER held personally accountable for doing so. If the pet owner receives any justice, which is very rare, that justice is in the form of a check paid for by the long suffering taxpayers.

cops live for the paycheck. and most of them are crooks without the balls.
hiding behind the “badge”. and if the last few years have taught us anything, it is that most of them are not suitable to be holding a gun or badge.
NEVER trust a cop on anything.

OK folks, what the shithead with the badge did is wrong any way you color it, but you guys need to step back and quit morally equating the killing of the dog with the killing of a person.
The dog is a harmless family pet & clearly no threat, but it is an animal not a human soul. Equating the two is misguided. Beat the guy. Throw him off the force. Pile scorn on his (empty) head. But do not consider killing him, or equate what he did to killing a child.
Herschel’s right; you’re never in so much danger as when the police are involved, but don’t let your anger at the brutality/stupidity/arrogance of what was done drive you into similar-but-worse error.

@ Old Bill – If this turd will shoot a friendly dog, what will he do to a person who displays the slightest threat? It doesn’t matter if he’s a cop or not, dude is a threat to society and needs to be gone. Not fired, not scorned. GONE from society and in a very painful way.

This man should not even be allowed to have a gun he was so irresponsible. And obviously he should not be a cop. This city better fire him or get better insurance.

  17. On July 11, 2023 at 11:10 am, Archer said:

The video opens with the dog running away, tail wagging. That tells me that the dog has already approached the officer and shown itself to be friendly and non-aggressive.

That is a crucial point, in my opinion.

When the dog next approaches, the officer acts like he’s being charged by an aggressive dog … that 3 seconds earlier showed itself to be non-aggressive.

I feel the question now needs to be raised: As a private citizen, would you attempt to “citizen’s arrest” a violent cop? Would you be justified in using force to do so?

Citizen’s arrest laws vary by state, but generally, you would need to personally witness the crime, it would have to be a felony, and you generally cannot use force except to protect yourself and others.

However: Animal cruelty is a federal felony (2019 PACT Act). This instance was witnessed by half the neighborhood. And the officer kept his gun out far longer than necessary and pointed at nearly everyone, after having just shown a willingness to unnecessarily use deadly force.

IANAL, but I’d almost say drawing down on the officer, demanding he drop his weapon and get on the ground, handcuffing him with his own cuffs (holstering your weapon after he’s cuffed), making the 911 call to report the crime, and holding him there until other police arrive, is warranted — if nothing else to ensure the safety of the community from a violent sociopath.

Wearing a badge is no excuse for committing a violent federal felony or endangering every person in a neighborhood. Honestly, I’m surprised he didn’t get rushed by half a dozen guys and beaten down; he got lucky.

Criminal behavior — whether by thugs, or thugs with badges — will increase according to our willingness to tolerate it. The time for tolerance is past.

If, as the myth goes, the “good guys” were in the “vast majority”, this cop would be taken back to the station, given some intense wall to wall counseling by his peers, and vigorously encouraged to find another line of work.

    That isn’t happening, is it?

Jeepers, what could that mean….? Puzzling isn’t it?

Rhetorical question: If you saw an elderly lady and two kittens trapped in a burning car, would you risk your own safety to bust out a window and attempt a rescue?

What? You would? You mean that isn’t just a cop / first responder thing? You mean that is a Human thing to do?

Second rhetorical question: If a friendly neighborhood Labrador reteiver trotted up to you, tail wagging and tongue hanging out, would YOU instantly draw a pistol and shoot it?

That wouldn’t even occur to you, would it?

What kind of a person WOULD do such a thing?
