Is it just me or does it seem like the gov is releasing info that is making the fear porn go through the roof? Unless the Chinese are swarming the Rio Grande River (flashbacks of Korea) I would not want a full auto. I insist on my AR though. Not getting that period.

Nowhere in the U.S. Constitution does it give “regulatory agencies” the right to create law by regulatory fiat, yet here we are. A Congress whose members took seriously the idea of their duties, vis-a-vis our founding documents and principles, would have reined in or disbanded entirely, rogue agencies abusing their powers. Since Congress has done nothing, can we the people infer that the members of the House and Senate have found no fault in their actions? Sure seems that way.

Red Man…. In the past it was almost unheard of for a full auto weapon to be used in the commission of a crime. But with the advent of Glock “auto switches” it’s becoming far more common for full auto to be used by criminals….mostly in the ghettos and festering large cities. It’s almost as if the 1934 NFA Act was being ignored by all those criminals…..

If people with your attitude had been around in sufficient numbers in the early 1930s, maybe NFA 1934 would not have been passed. That’s when it all started to go downhill for the American RTKBA and the 2nd Amendment. The history behind that is fascinating, not least for the fact that the “problem” supposed to be solved by NFA 1934 was one of the federal government’s own making, namely alcohol prohibition.
Prior to the passage in January 1919 of the 18th Amendment to the Bill of Rights, and the Voldsted Act prohibiting the manufacture, production, distribution, sale, or consumption of alcoholic spirits, organized crime was a comparatively small problem confined to a few major urban areas of the country, and the Cosa Nostra – the Sicilian mafia or mob – was not at all well-known.
The ban on alcohol changed all of that. The underworld and black-market economy made profits possible that heretofore had been the stuff of dreams, and the mob grew like gang-busters slaking the thirst of Americans who still wanted to consume wine, beer and spirits. Overnight, fortunes were made and family dynasties formed, the Kennedys for example. Joseph P. Kennedy, the patriarch of the Kennedy clan, made his fortune as a rum-runner during the Prohibition Era and later “went legit” to launder his fortune and keep the Feds off his back.
The shoot-outs between rival gangs of mobsters and between mobsters and various law-enforcement agencies quickly made headline news in places like Chicago, New York, Cleveland, Kansas City and other major cities. Outlaws such as Bonnie and Clyde, Baby Face Nelson, and John Dillinger captured the imagination of the public, as well as some of the law-men tasked with ending their crime sprees, such as Elliott Ness and his Untouchables, Melvis Purvis, and “Jelly” Brice, to name a few.
At that time, any citizen could purchase a fully-automatic weapon such as a Thompson .45 ACP SMG or a Browning Automatic Rifle without any permit of any kind, at the local hardware or firearms store. Auto Ordnance even marketed the Thompson as a firearm suitable for the cowboy!
And when the outlaws armed themselves with these effective weapons, the law-men had to follow suit. Quite naturally, some high-profile gun battles took place. The 1934 shootout at Little Bohemia Lodge being one well-known example, a botched federal raid on thew Dillinger gang.
Amidst this backdrop, is how the Roosevelt administration got the National Firearms Act passed in 1934, but notice the sleight of hand: It isn’t the gangsters and criminals themselves blamed for the bloodshed, but the tools they are using, i.e., the weapons they carried. And arguably, the various criminal gangs of that time would not even have existed in the first place, or at least been so powerful, had not the government passed the Voldsted Act in the first place!
It’s all a self-licking ice-cream cone which grows government, grows its tax revenue base, and expands its power. Or to use another metaphor, it is like a magician doing something with one hand, but something else entirely with the other. Cause a problem with one hand, “solve it” with the other…. easy way to dupe the ‘proles who never suspect that fed.gov is the cause of all of it. Or darned near all of it….

That’s correct, but with a proviso: The courts still adjudicate cases having to do with the Second Amendment – goodness knows why, since most of the rest of the government pretends that the constitution does not exist – but that is a fact. It also serves as a convenient rallying point for the RTKBA crowd, and serves a purpose for that.
However, that said, if the 2A disappeared tomorrow, it would not alter in the slightest the facts on the ground. The Constitution and Bill of Rights affirmed rights free men already possessed; they did not grant such rights or liberties. Those predate the document itself. A Christian would say those rights were God-given, and perhaps an atheist would say that they were “inherent.” But regardless, the covenant signed upon that day did not grant those rights.
Those who wish to ban private ownership of firearms have long-contended that if they can just get the Second Amendment abolished, then Americans will simply have to turn over their arms to the authorities. They are of course incorrect, for the reasons above. The right to self-defense and defense of one’s loved ones and property is fundamental to human existence, regardless of what others claim.
Do not overlook the deterrent value, either, of all of those arms (and ammunition for them) which now lie in private hands. Who knows how many times the knowledge of that fact has stayed a would-be tyrants hand? In this respect, the 2A is working exactly as the Founders intended.
