The FedGov Is Arming Up

1) The 2,300 Special Agents at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) are allowed to carry AR-15’s, P90 tactical rifles, and other heavy weaponry. Recently, the IRS armed up with $1.2 million in new ammunition. This was in addition to the $11 million procurement of guns, ammunition, and military-style equipment procured between 2006-2014.
2) The Small Business Administration (SBA) spent tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars to load its gun locker with Glocks last year. The SBA wasn’t alone – the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service modified their Glocks with silencers.
3) The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has a relatively new police force. In 1996, the VA had zero employees with arrest and firearm authority. Today, the VA has 3,700 officers, armed with millions of dollars’ worth of guns and ammunition including AR-15’s, Sig Sauer handguns, and semi-automatic pistols.
4) Meanwhile, Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) agents carry the same sophisticated weapons platforms used by our Special Forces military warriors. The HHS gun locker is housed in a new “National Training Operations Center” – a facility at an undisclosed location within the DC beltway.
5) Loading the Gun Locker – Federal agencies spent $44 million on guns, including an “urgent” order for 20 M-16 Rifles with extra magazines at the Department of Energy ($49,559); shotguns and Glock pistols at the General Services Administration ($16,568); and a bulk order of pistols, sights, and accessories by the Bureau of Reclamation whose main job is to build dams, power plants, and canals ($697,182).
6) Buying Bullets in Bulk – The government spent $114 million on ammunition, including bulk purchases by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ($66,927); the Smithsonian ($42,687); and the Railroad Retirement Board ($6,941). The Social Security Administration spent $61,129 on bullets including 50,000 rounds of ammunition plus 12-gauge buckshot and slug ammo. The EPA special agents purchased ammunition for their .357 and 9mm revolvers and buckshot for their shotguns. While Bernie Sanders claimed that the biggest adversary to the United States was climate change, the EPA stood ready to fight in ways we couldn’t have imagined.
7) The DOE (Department of Education) is armed and ready with 88 law enforcement officers possessing arrest and firearm authority. They’ve purchased buckshot for their shotguns and 40-caliber ammunition for their Glocks. DOE special agents dress in body armor. Their spending on guns, ammunition and military-style equipment was up 25 percent during the last two years under the Obama Administration. Yet, in 2016, it took a pair of armed U.S. Marshals to arrest a man for his unpaid $1,500 student loan!
He goes on, with the Department of Interior, Department of Agriculture, etc.
FedGov is arming up. You can take guesses why, and post them in comments. They are the standing army that the founders feared so much. And for very good reason.

I’m guessing true automatics with select fire, nice rails, eotech sight, and a highend stock. All that could easily hit that number (and beyond), especially since they are listed as a rush order (like the DoE had an some sort of emergency?).

50k rounds of ammo is 1000 rounds of training ammo for 50 officers. Not even 100 rounds a month for practice.

Each Federal Agency has its own building with full time assigned officers in multiple regional office locations across the country.

On a tangent, I thought it intriguing about 4-5 years back that DHS was putting out bids for Personal Defense Weapons which included the criteria of being fully automatic-which is what the military would consider an assault weapon, yet the regular guy that buys an AR-15 to pimp out, catches flak from the media for their “Assault Weapon”. The media avoids asking why law enforcement needs to be able to spray and pray.

DOE does have nuke plants including the Y12 complex at Oak Ridge, Hanford, Savanah River Complex, a huge nuclear weapons manufacturing complex east of Amarillo, and a bunch of DOE labs (e.g. Sandia, Los Alamos, etc) several of which do work relating to nuke power plants, nuclear weapons, and/or nuclear waste disposal. That DOE order might secure one of the major facilities.
As for State, how many embassies and facilities abroad do they operate? 100+?

Yes, I know about Y-12 and the Pantex plant. He didn’t raise the issue of enrichment or weapons facilities, he raised the issue of DOE security services for commercial nuclear power plants, which is a fantasy.
So let’s go through this again. Commercial nuclear power plants provide for their own security, some utilities have full time employees as security, some contract this out, but it isn’t done by DOE, and it also isn’t done by the NRC (to whom commercial nuclear plants report).
Security for nuclear weapons installations (and for shipment of weapons-grade fissile material) is done by Marine Corps FAST teams. As to the DOE complex such as ORNL and LANL, I’ve been aboard many, many, many times. Much of the security is done by contractors.
I can’t vouch for the Pantex plant, but I’d bet a dollar to a whole in a doughnut that it’s not done by DOE employees.

Granted, there’s far too many federal agencies with guns, yet zero need for armed federal officers with any arrest powers.
I can live – with huge reservations – with the FBI existing, despite their egregious need for pruning back, the US Marshal Service, the F&WS (who sure as hell don’t need suppressors for any reason) and National Park Service (because national parks have a higher criminal pop. per capita than South Central L.A. or Harlem most days, and are under-policed to the point that Mexican drug cartels run multiple million-$ illegal pot farms in several of them in the US at any given time).
State Dept. embassies, nuclear facilities and convoys, and the Coasties under DOT is okay. Treasury gets you the Secret Service, uniformed and plainclothes.

If they need an actual federal cop, they should call the Fibbies or the US Marshals. Nobody else should even have a gun or a badge, just an ID card and a cell phone. They can always go to the US Attorney, get a warrant, and call in the real feds.

Then compare it to the NICS tally for any month in the last 10 years, and get back to me.
I suspect that within a percentage point or two, the tally looks like the roster ratio last seen in the famous Sitting Bull v. Custer match-up from 1876. American private citizens have more weapons than the world’s top twenty armies combined, 99.9997% of which are used to commit no crimes annually, and ordinary Americans probably buy enough to equip the entire army of the People’s Republic of China from scratch, every year for the last half century, at a rough guess. If anything, I’m probably understating that.
I’m frankly far more peeved that any sum spent represents mainly a gratuitous squandering of taxpayer revenue, with zero accountability when these Barney Fifes misplace, pilfer, or lose control of their weapons, like they do week in and week out, because they’re 99.999% @$$clowns on their best day.
Which is why the simplest move to saving taxpayer dollars and cutting crime at the airports by 95% overnight would be to lock up half the TSA, fire the other half, and turn the job back over to the airport and local municipality’s jurisdiction. Their rate of catching simulated weapons and bombs would probably also crawl up out of the current single-digit percent range, and perhaps get as far as the low teens as well, simply by letting private companies hire employees with IQs higher than their belt size.
And for those who are armed, and oughta be: any federal employee who can’t qualify on the current FBI standard course for a given weapon, isn’t allowed to carry one. Period. And if they fail, no retests for one year.
Next, we can start weeding out the 30 yards of federal regulations never passed by Congress that they all shouldn’t be enforcing either.

Consider the numbers of people who complete a career in the military and then start another one in civil service. Not only are they well trained but they’re also likely to have little sympathy for “traitors,” and that’s what they’ll believe us to be.
My step-son is a career Marine and this subject comes up from time to time. He admits that they talk about it occasionally but few want to go on record regarding their feelings — either way. Can you blame them? No matter what their leanings, they’ll damage their reputations, either with their fellow grunts or their senior non-coms.
There will be blood, lots of it… on both sides. As with all wars, we will all lose, even though one side will be hailed as the victors.
