C.A.W.S. Military Shotgun

I didn’t know S&W had ever worked on a military shotgun. If this idea was floated today, I expect it would get stiff competition from the Beretta 1301 and Benelli M4.

I think that S&W wanted that military contract but were up against both Mossberg and Remington. The S&W prototype is really well designed (and the AR appearing platform so evident) but the $$$ would have never made it (then) viable. I am a firm believer in the shotgun as a combat and LE viable as a necessary tool. The SG is one of the 3 in 3 gun competition. Nothing can clear out the real state faster than a magazine fed SG–which is being manufactured and sold on the market now. I purchased my Mossberg 590 from a fellow agent that competed in 3 gun and wanted to use a Saiga. We experimented with it and–that thing was reliable and very affordable then. The Saiga was so competitive that he ditched the 590 to me to get the Saiga which then got segregated from the other gas gun competitors because: nothing reloads faster than a magazine fed weapon and it violated their appearance standards.
I never did 3 gun (NRA Service Rifle HP and 3 position Smallbore) but have the 590 and also a Mossberg 940 JM (along with others). The Mossbergs have been tricked out slightly and have things well covered imho. JX
