Gun Sales Surge in Virginia Ahead of Democrat Takeover
BY Herschel SmithEarlier today Tom Knighton covered the not-so-great news about the number of NICS checks performed on firearm transfers during Thanksgiving week, which were down about 13% compared to last year.
One state that bucked the trend, though, is Virginia. The National Shooting Sports Foundation reports the state was among the top five across the country for both NICS checks in general and NICS checks on the transfer of long guns; a surge NSSF’s Mark Oliva attributes to concerns about a sweeping semi-auto ban coming as soon as the Democrats take complete control of state government next month.
The spike in sales is an indication that at least some Virginia gun owners are aware of the looming threats to their Second Amendment rights, even though Democratic officials have largely been silent about their gun control plans. State Sen. Creigh Deeds told reporters a few weeks ago that he and other lawmakers are working on language for an “assault weapons ban”, and Sen. Scott Surovell has hinted that a permit-to-purchase law is likely to be introduced as well, but to date only two gun control bills have been filed; one meant to aid civil lawsuits against the firearms industry, and another dealing with the transfer of firearms that belong to a prohibited person.
You guys from Virginia are weird. You’ll sit at home and let democrats be elected into office, but when it comes time to react, you’ll get into your truck, head to the nearest FFL, and fill out paperwork. I don’t understand the laziness of one versus the diligence of the other.

I agree 100% I don’t understand the laziness either – Spanberger got less votes than McAuliffe did when he lost to Youngkin – a lot of people just stayed home and didn’t get off their ass to vote. Now we have to listen to the pasty pale ex-CIA tool for several years. Of course people will ignore any new laws they make – but it does make it difficult in some ways.
I enjoy the blog.

As someone who was an activist fighting against the Klinton AWB BEFORE it even got voted upon, I will say it is the same as it ever was. I paid good money out of my own pocket to fight that bill. At a gun show of 25,000 attendees, I could only get 11 people to sign a pre-written, pre-addressed, postage paid letter to their senators and congressman. The main excuse people gave me? “I don’t want to get put on a list.” At least the NRA helped me out some. But, when that passed, the gun shows were filled with those same morons spending everything they had to buy the banned guns and mags. My faith in my fellow firearms “enthusiasts” was drastically shattered back then. I think today it is called, “black pilled”?
To paraphrase what the fellow from Fred’s M14 Stocks used to write in Shotgun News, “If you won’t fight the soft fight, when it is easy to do so, how can anyone depend on you to fight the hard fight when things get difficult?”
