The shameful silence over the slaughter of Nigeria’s Christians
BY Herschel SmithTowards the end of September, comedian Bill Maher provoked social-media outrage by asking a simple question: why does the coverage of Gaza get so much mainstream-media attention when the persecution of Christians in Nigeria gets almost none?
‘They are systematically killing the Christians in Nigeria’, he said on his talk show, Real Time:
‘They’ve killed over 100,000 since 2009. They’ve burned 18,000 churches… These are the Islamists, Boko Haram. This is so much more of a genocide attempt than what is going on in Gaza. They are literally attempting to wipe out the Christian population of an entire country.’
You wouldn’t think of someone like Maher – a self-described ‘apatheist’ (‘I don’t know what happens when you die, and I don’t care’) – as suddenly becoming the most prominent voice on the persecution of Christians in Nigeria. But he’s absolutely right. They are being slaughtered en masse.
I have several remarks.
First, the Nigerian Christians needs to find a way to obtain firearms and go on a holy war a crusade against Muslims. It could be that the Muslims have benefactors and thus can obtain those weapons easily. As for world wide Christians, we don’t disobey laws against trafficking arms, do we? American Christians think Jesus was a Bohemian, peacenik, flower child pacifist. But either way, with benefactors or not, the Christians needs to stand up an well armed army of men.
As to the question ‘why’, it’s a shame that the likes of Bill Maher would have to ask the question. As for America, the corrupt, heretical and unbiblical seed of dispensationalism is to blame. As for the rest of the world, I have one sentence that can answer that.
Follow the money.

The wanton slaughter of African Christians over the years has been amply documented by the courageous Dr. Peter Hammond, whose ministry has served in some of the hottest war-zones on the continent. Hammond has narrowed escaped death more than once, particularly during his time in the Sudan when the genocidal government of General Omar al-Bashir, used the Sudanese Army and Air Force to liquidate Christian settlements and bomb churches.
The depredations of the jihadists became so severe that the non-Muslim residents of the Sudan had to split off into another nation, the South Sudan, in order to gain a degree of safety. Even so, they have had to remain armed and fortify their towns and settlements along the frontier against raids by the Janjaweed and other Islamic groups seeking loot and slaves to snatch. Particularly sought-after are virginal young females who fetch a handy price at auction.
Our host is quite right: The solution to Islamic violence against Christians is to arm up and prepare to defend one’s self. In the some 1,400 years Islam has waged war against the infidels, the only remedy which has worked is overwhelming force, applied as frequently as necessary.
It has been said that the devout soldier of Allah views death as a promotion. In other words, according to sharia law, any shahid – true warrior of the faith – who perishes while waging jihad in the name of the prophet, is immediately taken into heaven where all of the earthly pleasures of paradise await him. How can one negotiate with such zealotry? I leave the last word to the U.S. Marines, who have an apt saying: “Every devout jihadist wishes to meet Allah. It is our job to arrange the meeting!”
We could also tear a page from the book of General John “Black Jack” Pershing, who fought the fanatical Moro tribesmen in the Philippine Insurrection quite successfully, in part by letting it be known that his men – Army soldier and Marine alike – were smearing the lard of hogs onto their bullets prior to loading the cartridges into their weapons, and that Islamic dead left on the field of battle were to be buried in open pits strewn with pig entrails. Pigs are considered unclean and haram (forbidden) in Islam…

I agree. Just like the whites in S Africa. Don’t stand by passively when someone is trying to kill you.
I have often thought that scripture gets cherry picked and preached in order to keep Christians (in the west) passive. It’s going to be a problem here in the US as well.

Our church in SW Ohio supports a lot of missionaries, but none of them are in the US. Most of the money goes to African locations, including Nigeria.
This church knows about the killings, but the solution supported by the church leadership(and at least the state level leadership) is for the Nigerian believers to rejoice in being martyrs for Christ. The missionaries that the church support are all committed to peaceful dialogue with the Animists and the Islamics, not confrontation.
A growing number of the congregants and leaders are pushing the idea of bringing into the US all of the Christians being persecuted; first, those in Nigeria, and when the Islamics go after other groups, those groups as well.

Western elites are not Christians, they are either Jews or atheists. They pander to Islam partly out of fear, and also partly out of contempt for Christians. They fear Christianity because they know that in the past, when the West — and America in particular — WAS Christian, most of their Judeo-Bolshevik-hedonist ideology was illegal: abortion, sodomy, fornication, usury, miscegenation, etc. etc.
They remain silent when Christians are being killed because their are indifferent, or because they applaud the killing on some level.

As tempting as it might be to do that for humanitarian reasons, the best course of action is for the nations of the world to encourage Africans to solve their own problems rather than expecting the rest of the world to bail them out. Why is it the problem of a parish in Oklahoma or someplace when there are plenty of nations and communities closer to Nigeria which are capable of helping?
There are already people who need help right here in the USA; what about them? I suppose what I am saying is that charity begins at home, or ought to.

@Georgiaboy61,
What’s worse is when this charity is care of the taxpayer or congregant when other, better things should be done with the wealth.
There’s nothing like the state volunteering your wealth for someone else.
