Controlling the Hog Population in Texas
BY Herschel SmithThis is the first video I’ve seen that frankly admits that it takes too much time, too many resources, and too much manpower to catch hogs in traps. And the first to admit that hunting has the most immediate and dramatic impact on the population.
There is one issue I have with the video. He says, “When you shoot one the rest won’t come back.” Hogwash. I’ve seen it happen within 15 minutes.
By the way, you see that shot at 13:13 of the video? That’s how you take hogs (direct hit to the head or just behind the ear) with smaller caliber rifles. With big bore guns you aren’t so limited.

Seems like they should be relocated to a place where food is scarce… like Africa or Gaza.
Just another invasive species coming to America seeking a better life.

There won’t be any serious hog eradication until the state passes a law allowing hog hunters right of trespass onto private lands for purpose of getting rid of hogs.
Too many farmers have realized they can make money charging people to hunt the hogs on their property, while complaining about the hog invasion and hitting up government for monetary assistance for the damages they have suffered. Take the monetary incentive away from the farmers and watch the wild hog population plummet.

A lot of people who own private land, pay taxes on it and work very hard on their off time keeping it maintained would take a dim view of people wandering onto their property and not contributing a dime or drop of sweat that the landowner does.
People getting hurt on that property sometimes sue the landowner even when they had nothing to do with the action committed. A lawyer we knew who allowed people on his property ALWAYS had a signed document every time absolving him of any blame or consequence of others. Friends – family – same document.
I’m guessing the 8:20 am comment was made in jest or bait. But if meant seriously, maybe more explanation of how this works would be wise.

@8:20 – Yeah, just what us Texans need is more government infringement on our property rights. Instead of the state just giving blind permission to whoever to wander around people’s property, discharging firearms at hogs (cattle, dogs, whatever they might think is a hog) how about the state not pay any damages from hogs with taxpayer monies to landowners who charge hunters to kill hogs on their property?
I’d love to help ranchers/farmers here eradicate hogs, but haven’t found any who don’t want me to pay them to solve their problem.
