Woman Attacked in My Anchorage Neigborhood

Not mine, but his.
I’m surprised he isn’t carrying his .454 Casull wheel gun.
I don’t go into the bush where I live without being armed, much less in Alaska.

Heck Herschel
Up here in Rutherford County, the bears are getting to be a daily occurrence.
My cabin is in the woods and I always have something when I go downstairs to the garage,(outside stairs).
Black bears supposedly don’t take much to dissuade, so a heavy 9mm is probably enough.
Typically it’s a .45ACP +P or .44Spl (both with hardcast) though.
Same on motorcycle camping trips, thinking about a takedown for western trips that might wander into big bear country.
Seems like a lot more stories of bear attacks recently.
More attacks or more social media coverage?
Both?
Have a Good Day

Hollywood and popular culture have done a real disservice to the public by failing to show Mother Nature as she really is. In movies, cable TV and in video games, nature is portrayed as being filled with gentle animals who wouldn’t think of making a meal of a human being, but in reality, nature is “red in tooth and claw,” as biologist J.B.S. Haldane once said.
In other words, if you look like food, you’ll be eaten.
Which means do not go into the natural world unarmed. At a minimum, a large-bore handgun and some sort of edged weapon as well. If permissible, a rifle or other long arm as well. Shotguns with slugs work well for certain applications.
Bear spray – at least the varieties available on the civilian commercial market – isn’t reliably effective. It does not incapacitate the bear, only attacks his senses. That’s not good enough when your life is on the line.
Remember, too, that most mammals instinctively fear fire. File that one away for emergency use as well…
