The Supreme Court is an elite government agency and these decisions are political, not legal or historical.
Like all elite government agents, the justices are protected by armed guards to keep them safe from “riffraff” like you and me, and they do not want us riffraff to be able to outgun their mercenaries.
On the other hand, the text of the Constitution clearly mentions the right to keep and bear arms. They cannot deny it. And politically, outside of the elite cities in what they consider bumfuck-land where us riffraff live, there is a lot of political support for gun ownership.
So their strategy is to simply keep kicking the can down the road, to avoid making a final decision, and to tell everyone what they want to hear without compromising their own elite status and their own elite security.
If they can get away with limiting “you hicks” to an Elmer Fudd shotgun loaded with #7, which is in no way a threat to the government’s elite mercenaries, while simultaneously duping you into believing that you live in a “free country” and you have “gun rights,” then that’s what they’re going to do.

Sucks that Barrett has become a problem, she and Kavanaugh are Not to be counted on.
