Jeff Quinn Examines The Ruger LCP II In .22LR

This is a nifty little pocket gun as pocket guns go. I’m not really interested in .22LR, but the extremely recoil sensitive or someone who isn’t really a gun person might benefit from this. I’d actually be more interested in a model chambered for .22 WMR as a pocket gun.
At any rate, for a semi-automatic to cycle reliably with a rimfire cartridge is a feat in and of itself. The external safety is a nice feature for a pocket or purse gun.

It would be tough to get a 22 WMR to work in a pocket auto. The 22mag round is 9mm longer than the 22LR. It is 4mm longer than the 9mm round. It is a little over 9mm longer than the .380.
I own one of the Armscor 1911-22mag pistols. It is a dream to shoot. No recoil, accurate. fun to shoot on the indoor range with the fireballs it throws out. But those long skinny rounds can get hung up trying to chamber. It’s grip is just a hair bigger than a standard 45 ACP 1911.
To get the 22mag to work in the 1911, Armscor had to use a trick barrel with a floating chamber. They had to do this to get the cycle correctly.

When I was at the shop I was a big advocate of the little 8 shot 22 wheel gun that Ruger made. The LCR 22. Small, lite, reliable.
And, I’ve never heard of a criminal saying; is that a 22 your pointing at me?
Would it be a good gun as a straight up carry gun? no. But is your wife not the type that wants to learn about guns to the point of operation in times of high stress? Something she can practice with, without all the attendant problems we as males laugh off? Recoil being just one?
I can’t count how many guys buy they’re wife a S&W air lite. Only to have her go practice once. Then never pick it up again.
I’m not a big fan of small autos in 22, as they require high velocity ammo to operate. And are prone to problems such as dirt and neglect.(as being in the bottom of a purse for 3 weeks.)
But a little revolver might be something you can get your wife into. Who knows from there.
Also, having killed as many thing as I have with a 22. CCI Stingers are nothing to laugh at. Just to name one of how many?

As often stated, “The bad guys don’t want to get shot with nothin’!”
And, smaller calibers, such as the ‘lowly .22’ can be very life-saving.
