Liberty, If Not Already Annihilated, Is On The Brink Of Destruction

BY Herschel Smith
4 years, 7 months ago

“This may be considered as the true palladium of liberty…. The right of self defense is the first law of nature: in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any color or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction.”
– St. George Tucker, Blackstone’s Commentaries on the Laws of England, 1803

Cited by David Codrea.  His article at Firearms News is full of important commentary on the current state of affairs, and the apparent current support for a new AWB if only enough rulers would favor it.

Don’t miss the fact that Mitch McConnell feels pressured.

“The urgency of this is not lost on any of us,” McConnell said.

But he noted the bar for legislation includes passing the House, garnering 60 votes in the Senate and a presidential signature.

He did not rule out looking at a ban on assault weapons, but noted there is a dispute over whether the 1994 ban that expired in 2004 had showed results.

“It’s certainly one of the front and center issues,” he said. “But what we can’t do is fail to pass something. What I want to see here is an outcome, not a bunch of partisan back and forths, shots across the bow.”

It’s urgent.  They must do something, because politics.  Codrea points out that Trump has jettisoned his base of gun owners.

Since Donald Trump was elected, the gun community has seen the president bypass Congress and ban bump stocks, support over 21 gun purchases, a Department of State over 32-round magazine ban for civilian firearms exports, push red flag laws which destroy the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th Amendments, and a complete ignoring of the evisceration of the 2nd Amendment in the states of: CA, OR, WA, IL, NM, NV, VT, FL, NY, NJ, MA, etc… And then there is his statement that he “doesn’t like” silencers.

Yes, and I’ll point out one more time that Florida received an influx of Puerto Ricans after the hurricane who will likely vote collectivist, Trump won North Carolina by a small margin, and he is in trouble in Ohio, possibly Georgia and perhaps even Texas.  The road to victory in the next election is narrow.

But it’s like that when you have no principles and undercut the very base you used to put you in office.  We are where we are because enough people didn’t ask Trump the hard questions on his core belief in gun rights (or enough people didn’t listen when I asked the hard questions on core beliefs).  It appears he doesn’t have any.

The single most important question was “Are you Hillary Clinton?”, and at worst he’s still a Hillary-lite … but Ted Cruz and Rand Paul would probably have been better Republican picks, now that we see Trump also isn’t serious about immigration. It’s clear he lied through his teeth on everything he said about the RKBA, and except for the things we can directly observe, like that he’s not Hillary, we can’t believe a word he says. And that alone will hurt him with gun owners.

WRT to “universal background checks”, one thing something I just read reminded me of is that these are often engineered to prevent new people from learning about guns by banning sharing, including when directly supervised.

Since 2020 won’t give you anything you want — your Republican knight in shining armor turned out to be just another Democrat — why not invest that vote in getting a third-party, the LP, over the 5% FEC hurdle so that NEXT TIME the GOP and the Dems will face a clearly differentiated policy challenge during the Presidential debates? So that NEXT TIME the GOP will not be able to take you for granted? (Like they’re doing now.)

If you had done that in 2016, if you had done that in 2012, if you had done that in 2008, or 2004, or 2000, you wouldn’t be having all this weeping and gnashing of teeth now.

Afraid you will accidentally elect a Democrat? What difference, at this point, does it make?

I believe people think, because we fly over country dirt people voted him in, he is “our” guy. He is not. He is a very rich savvy politician that knows how to “play the game”. He is NOT for the US Constitution. He is for the fedgov. Like most, he either does not know the difference or he knows and does not care, because… power. At this point, I don’t believe our country can be saved from the fedgov. Those vested in the power of gov won’t go quietly. The mass of sheeple will still be clueless. 3. Cruz is perfectly fine with China and most other countries ripping us off every chance they can. His main trade issue is not making anyone mad so there won’t be a “Trade War”. He has no problem with jobs offshoring. Trump lied about his opposition to the H-Visa programs. Cruz was honest. He always said they were A-OK and should be expanded.

    4. Cruz is a civic nationalist so he is perfectly fine with the continuing immigration invasion from third world countries. He believes in the magic dirt. I know it is now clear no one will be allowed to solve this problem so a moot point anyway.

    @Towser,
“He does seemingly genuinely care for people.”

This is exactly why the Holy Bible says that women should not be in charge. A nanny state assumes in the end that it must do the work of god, church, neighbors, and family to care for others.

Caring about people through National leadership is not the same as caring for people to their ruination. If you care about people you don’t take their guns because they need them. If you care for people (nurture/empathy/clean bo boos/hugs, all fine qualities in a woman at home) you take their guns because they are children who need to be cared for that can’t care for themselves in the gov’s mindset.

How could you send men to war or defend your border if you cared FOR people instead of caring about your people and their Nation?

A Nation must be led, by a man with iron resolve for his Nations future, yes, at the expense of all others and even to the temporary detriment or sometimes death of some of your own in order to perpetuate your Nation. Trump did appear on many levels to be this type of man. He has folded to the NWO like a cheap suit. Ivanka and Jared are his mind and whoever he talks to last that seems the most compelling he takes those words as his own new fondest pet idea. Trump has no center, no core because he has no God. I mean, even evil people are consistent, structured, and have determined goals. Trump is mush.

Trump was builder (also a branding expert) and a good one because the goal is preset, build the thing. Now input about how to do that is welcomed. National Leadership is a whole ‘nother ball of wax.

But, I stand by my inclination. He will remain installed for a second term, after all, he’s playing ball, and that’s what counts.

This sentence could have been written by any authoritarian claiming either side of the proverbial aisle. It sounds fanatical. It is fanatical.

Why must any nation be lead? That’s where you start. Under what a priori assumptions do we arrive at “must?” What is “iron resolve,” exactly? To what sort of “expense” and “detriment” do you refer, exactly, or is that all “death?” Why is there precedence given to a “Nation” over its constituent individuals? How do you reconcile this collectivist ethos with your western Christianity? To what “Nation” do you refer, exactly, and along what dimensions is this nation formed?

Your words read like jingoistic propaganda to me.

    @Joshua,
I took myself out of context, if such a thing were possible. I simply didn’t feel like writing 2 pages of background about rightful and just government and then specifying why hard men as leaders are good when things go bad. I suppose that you are correct. That statement by itself could be rather Hitlerian or Stalinist (I know, we’re supposed to pretend that they were different from each other). The folks who read this blog know the background, but we all know what assumptions do and you got me.

Anyway, I offer the US Constitution (only fit for a religious people) and specifically the part about drafting an army to be sent perhaps to their death in defense of Nation as a type of this resolve that a leader needs in order to put the drafted army to use. My statement assumes rightful Republicanism.

Further background on Republicanism would be such as this which is the rough basis of the US’ original governmental structure (don’t miss the result in the last word of the quote, because you don’t need war and hard leaders if you will do what God commands in first place):

“Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens: and let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee. If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go to their place in peace.”

As to Nation, I use the old definitions. Not those in Websters that apparently has been re-written by statists and other commies, to make a Nation synonymous with a Country. A country is a land area. You can put all of the disparate people that you want into a Country but it will not be a Nation. A Nation is a people, well, if they are willing to defend a land area, traditions, culture, heritage, history etc. None of this is unbiblical. Loving your neighbor, or treating the stranger among you well, does not mean to allow your civilization to be overrun by Godless barbarians, or overthrown from within by the same, especially, because; Feelings. And the feelings part is why men are the head in God’s design. I know, it’s uncomfortable to say out loud, but it must be said.

Allowing yourselves to be ruined is not what Christ said or meant anywhere. In fact, not following Him will ruin you and your Nation, read Matthew…But hey, you get to keep your Country if you’re allowed to live and you can use the constitution as TP when all of the food production is ground to a halt and the trucks stop running, so there’s that, but of course if there’s no food you don’t much need TP anyway.

Sometimes, we must girt up our loins and call upon the LORD so that we might live, even if that means making war.

All of that said to say, that we have lost our Nation and are losing its landmass in the process but we deserve it, and worse. Again, claiming no special knowledge, I just read my bible, holy Judgement is upon us. And if you don’t know who us is, you will. They always start with the Christians.

I do know that God is no respecter of persons and that there are only two peoples in God’s economy; them that believe of the LORD and them that don’t, well, perhaps a third that believe and won’t follow but I digress. But, the enemies of God don’t care about this, obviously. Perhaps the Christians of color (Is that a thing, it sounds retarded.) will be allowed to live in the coming Revolution but I doubt it. They always come for the Christians first. Can’t have those pesky men indwelt by the Spirit of righteousness and justice interfering with the mass killings, now can they. But, if you want to kill me because I’m Christian I’ve resolved in my heart not to deny my LORD but if you want to go about killing any who won’t comply with the new regime, then you will have return fire, and which point, going on offense will be justified by the Law of God. LORD in heaven help us.

So now I’ve stepped on everybody’s toes and upset perceptions about favorite verses and Mr. Herschel might get a warning about comment content but oh well, truth ain’t easy.

I use the entirety of God’s law, the Prophets, and New Testament to reach my conclusions, and I include history and the facts of those who are anti-Christ based upon their past behaviors, so answers that squeeze the life out of a verse or two might get some feedback not well received. I remain, as always, open to intelligent feedback. I’ve been known to change my mind so don’t give up on me.

Interestingly, Joshua was one of only 2 men, the other was Caleb, who had the fortitude and not the spirit of fear, to insist that the people follow God and make war immediately to take their land. Hmm? Both got to see that land, and they were the only two.

Have a great weekend and use it wisely.

We are the only country in the world that has a Second Amendment.
Find one government in all of history that banned it’s own ARMED FORCES from “Keeping and Bearing” ARMS.
Find one government in the history of humanity that felt a need to document a “RIGHT” for it’s ARMED FORCES to possess ARMS.
Oppressive Governments are ALWAYS banning the People’S RIGHTS to arms.
The claim that the Founding Fathers wrote the 2nd Amendment to give Our ARMED FORCES a “right” to keep and carry ARMS is S-T-U-P-I-D.
The only reason for the Second Amendment is to clearly spell-out the GOD GIVEN RIGHT of INDIVIDUALS to keep & bear ARMS.
The only reason for the BILL(list) of RIGHTS was to codify INDIVIDUALS’ GOD GIVEN RIGHTS.
Has there ever been a government that was not chock full of it’s “rights” up to and including declaring itself to be the Lord God Almighty?! (Rome, Egypt, Israel, etc)
Does the 1st Amendment mean the GOVERNMENT is allowed to give speeches? Try shutting up any Politician. But THEY would LOVE to shut YOU up, hence the FIRST Amendment.
Anyone who tells you the 2nd Amendment applies to the Army or State Militia, is telling you they think you are STUPID.
There has NEVER been a government that felt it had to codify it’s army’s/soldier’s “RIGHT” to “Keep and BEAR ARMS” because there has NEVER been a government that refused to allow It’s own soldiers to KEEP and BEAR ARMS!
The Second Amendment was written for the People, like the other 9 Amendments in the Bill of Rights. This was confirmed by the SCOTUS in the DC vs Heller decision, where they stated that the “People” in the Second Amendment were the same “People” that are mentioned in the First and Fourth Amendment.
The 2nd Amendment clearly codifies the “right of the PEOPLE to keep and bear arms”, and certainly not “the Militia”.
Why would “the Militia”, a type of army manned by citizen-soldiers as opposed to full-time “regulars”, need a constitutional amendment to guarantee they have the right “to keep and bear arms”?
Is there any specific statement anywhere in the Constitution that the army Congress is empowered to raise has the “right to keep and bear arms”? Of course not. …………. That is assumed.

the 2nd amendment,, specifies that the RIGHT to bear arms is the right of the people,, NOT the militia,,,, it is the people who will make up the militia,, but the right is not the right of a “well regulated militia” it is the right of the people, We the people were BORN WITH UNALIENABLE RIGHTS, meaning they come from GOD.

Cruz belongs in Cuba, not the US Senate.

Good Chris. Enjoy your gun controller president. Nothing could be finer! MAGA hats for everybody.

    @Blather (and others),

Not convinced by your rantings. Nobody’s panties are in a wad. The excuse that there is always the next step in the war isn’t a good answer. Politics is simply the first skirmish. You’re in the war now, stupid.

Ignoring that, refusing to engage in the political scene, and squandering away hard fought gains of the past only convinces me that gun owners hadn’t the will, stomach, virtue, power, persistence, or world view necessary even to win the first skirmish. The collectivists are more motivated, more connected, more consistent, and more determined.

The future doesn’t look so bright with that kind of disjointed, baseless laziness.

You’re just making excuses for failure. So far, you can mark this up as a win for the collectivists, and a failure for decent Americans. There is no excuse.

“We are where we are because enough people didn’t ask Trump the hard questions on his core belief in gun rights”

No, we are where we are because nobody ever does anything about infringements on the Second Amendment. It’s been primarily observed in the breach thereof for over a century, but nothing is done. Towns enact ordinances banning the carrying of firearms? Nothing beyond some angry muttering. Congress enacts a law banning certain types of firearms? Nothing beyond some angry letters to the editor. And on and on it goes. No group, of a size which would force politicians – at any level – to take notice, has ever taken to the town square, state capitol steps, or national mall and said “You wanna take the next 30 seconds or so to rethink that before we make you rethink it?” Hasn’t happened. Isn’t happening. Won’t happen.

    That’s how we got here.
