Paul Ryan Caves On Universal Background Checks

Washington Post:

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said this week that he is open to closing the loophole that allows weapon purchases at gun shows without a background check.

In an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel published Tuesday, Ryan said gun show loopholes are a “very reasonable” issue and that it’s “obvious” it should be addressed.

“I think we should look into someone who is not legally allowed to buy a gun going to (a show), buying one, and let’s figure that out,” he said. “I think we need to find out how to close these loopholes and do it in such a way that we don’t infringe on Second Amendment rights.”

You go ahead and “look into that.”  I think we should look into booting your cowardly ass out of Congress.  The phrase gun show loophole is an invention by the statists.  What they really want, and what you’re agreeing to, is universal background checks and a national gun registry.  These are evil things, and with everything I’ve got I will defend the right for grandfather to bequeath his rifle to his grandson under the Christmas tree without asking the communists in Washington about it.

I have the same counsel for you that I had for Eric Cantor.  Tread carefully, young man.  We’re watching.

The question not being asked by most of us is: “By what legitimate authority?” Did you ever ask a politician, a gun grabber, a public school teacher, a bureaucrat… “By what legitimate authority do you demand, order, enforce, do these things?”

    I have.

Most, of course, cite the “constitution” and/or “the rule of law.” I then ask them where those things get their LEGITIMATE authority. So far, NONE of them can answer that, and most become extremely angry when questioned at all. Yet I would think that is the most important question we can ask.

And it’s the most important question we can ask ourselves. Do we own our lives, or have we given our sovereign and natural authority over ourselves to the rulers and politicians?

Just who gave Ryan, Obama, Clinton, Feinstein or any of the rest of them the authority to decide these things? By what legitimate authority? I never gave any of them mine.

I had such hopes for that man.

Looks like he thinks his career will advance by selling us down the river. And so it will; but it is risky because if a war erupts, folks will remember and a rough justice will then be operating.

We need to keep the pressure on. Remember, an “honest politician” is one who, when he’s bought, stays bought. I don’t think any of them are honest. They won’t stay bought. They must be continually reminded that they work for us, we don’t work for them.

Same goes for NRA. To the “Lairds of Fairfax,” the most important thing is “access.” If they stick to their (our) guns, they might not be welcome on Capitol Hill. We have to keep reminding them that we expect them to fight for us, not cave in to retain the “friendship” of some congresscritter.

When are folks going to realize that “pro-gun” politicians are taking their cues from the NRA and industry whores like Ruger, SAAMI, NSSF/Sanetti et al?

There’s no way “pro gun” politicians would be pushing backdoor gun control/registration/confiscation schemes if NRA, Ruger, SAAMI, NSSF & Company hadn’t made it abundantly clear that they would go along with it and cover for them.

Instead of going on the offensive and moving to roll back “gun free” zones, Ruger’s legislative contact page urged gun owners to tell congress to get into government-conducted background checks and “mental health” issues that have already turned more than 150,000 innocent war veterans into “prohibited persons”. And NRA’s president effectively endorsed banning private sales. LaPierre, who has long opposed carry in schools, asked congress to pay for armed guards and school police instead, as if we need an even bigger police state, bigger government, and more union members.

Chatroom warriors and armchair gun rights strategists complain about politicians but go right ahead and donate to the NRA, go to FNRA banquets … and buy Ruger, patting them on the back for a free internet contact service as if it were some novel thing (GOA has offered a free online legislative contact service for over a decade, but without the pre-emptive surrender).

As long as these groups are allowed to (mis)represent the gun rights community, the betrayals will continue with impunity.

Anyone who wants to go on the offensive, stop the sellouts and hold squishes accountable must quit the NRA and instead join GOA, OFF, GRNC or one of the other no-appeasement groups.
