The 454 Casull reigns supreme in packable sized revolvers for use against dangerous animals

Tim Sundles covers the .454 Casull. Honestly, the .44 magnum is so stout to shoot I’m not sure I want a .454 Casull handgun. But really, I do.
I’d absolutely love to have that Rossi lever action gun in .454 Casull, but that caliber in a lever action rifle is literally unobtanium. It simply can’t be gotten anywhere for any price.
I don’t think Rossi does a very good job of keeping stocks high. They’d do better if they knew how much folks would want one of these rifles in .454 Casull.
But it would look much better in walnut.

I own that Rossi lever action in .454 Casull as well as both the 2 1/2″ and 7 1/2″ barrelled Ruger Alaskan’s in .454 Casull.
I carry several bullet types and weights in them depending on where they will be carried.
I’m getting tired of all this fear talk about shooting this caliber. It’s not at all bad. In fact, my 135# wife and her lighter friend, both small framed women in their 60’s, shoot all three of these firearms with ease.

The Rossi in .454 are hard to find, but you can order one through your local FFL and wait a few months.

I had a co-worker who had a finely tuned .454 Casull revolver. We were at the range and he let me shoot it. It is a powerful cartridge. I wish I could remember the revolver he had, as its action was buttery smooth.

That’s a nice looking rig, at a reasonable price. If I was a younger man and didn’t live in Califailure I’d snatch it up.

It is just an idea, but if it means a lot to you to have a lever-action in 454 Casull, maybe rebarreling an existing rifle or carbine is an option. The bolt-face would have to match, but that wouldn’t be a problem, I don’t think anyway, since the 454 is based on the 45 Colt case. I haven’t done any investigation of this as far as feasibility is concerned, but thought I’d pass along the idea. A qualified gunsmith could tell you more.
And it wouldn’t hurt to drop a note in the online “suggestion boxes” of such companies as Henry, Marlin, Winchester and Rossi, informing them of your wishes – just in case they don’t see them here at your website.
Oh, and one other idea: Some manufacturers have custom shop operations that do one-off projects for customers. I don’t know if any of the lever gun people do, but it might be worth exploring…
