Show this to the next person who says nature is gentle. That deer ought to be able to live their lives in peace without fear of a human hunter….. at least my bullet kills quickly and cleanly….

A much better wordsmith than I came up with ‘Red in tooth and claw’ to describe the “gentleness” of nature.

Engineer bud has them on trailcam for forest behind outbuilding and one on Christmas day 2022.
Lots of coyotes out there and house cats have to come in at dark.
About several counties away and still not happy about 15 minute concentration camp coming in next door county.
They don’t usually bother humans but aren’t to be petted and played with either.
Still have that video out of Africa where Soyjak couple gets out of car with child at a cheetah park and he does put the fear in them but stops at last second people filming don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

I’ve heard people say they’ve seen this happen. The Bobcats I see around our part of North Texas are bigger than I thought they were and have lots of attitude. I stay armed any time I’m out and about in the countryside for whatever it’s worth. Those things are fast!

I’m aware of two bobcat attacks in central AZ. One happened in Cottonwood where a rabid cat walked into a bar and started attacking people. Another in Payson where a rabid bobcat attacked an old guy walking in town alone. He got mauled pretty badly, and of course didn’t have a gun…

Not many stats on human-bobcat encounters. The media (and most of the wildlife agencies in the 50 states) don’t pay much attention unless there’s a fatality… and even then the human death is often blamed on… the human. Several bear maulings and killings (of people) are dismissed as “bear was defending a kill”, “bear was surprised”, “bear defended cubs”, “unable to assess the cause, so assume the bear was surprised”. I think that other predators, like bobcats, wolves, cougars, gators, crocks, etc. get a pass any time the ‘experts’ can point to a good alibi (aka “excuse”). So, yep, it’s on us (people) to be alert, aware, and prepared for our own defense. Maybe that’s not a bad idea, anyhow?
