The Gun Control Crowd – Reasoning In Circles
BY Herschel SmithAs Iowa lawmakers debated a gun rights bill this past legislative session, critics issued some dire warnings. Without requiring Iowans to get government permission to buy and carry firearms, they said, the state would devolve into lawlessness.
Under consideration was a proposal to modernize Iowa’s gun permit system, making permits to carry or acquire guns optional.
“This bill bans or kills background checks in this state, there’s no doubt about it,” state Rep. Beth Wessel-Kroeschell, D-Ames, said on the Iowa House floor this spring.
The Legislature passed the bill — known as “constitutional carry” or “permitless carry” — along party lines and it took effect July 1. Iowans now may purchase and carry weapons without a permission slip from the state.
“The sky is falling! The sky is falling!”
” … the state would devolve into lawlessness.”
In other words, if there is no law by which the controllers could govern something, then the people are free to engage in something out from under the control of the controllers.
That, my friend, is what’s called a tautology.
Law abiding people are in far more danger from their elected tyrants than from citizens exercising their right to carry arms.
In so many areas “The law stands mute” is the proper state of a Republic.
@George1: The only things certain are death and taxes, but death doesn’t get worse because the Legislature is in session :-)
They repeat the same lies state by state, never having to defend themselves against the evidence that none of their proclamations of doom have occurred in states that have begun restoring the Second Amendment.
Ah yes, the standard “shootouts over parking spots” trope that has been wheeled out since Florida passed their shall issue permit law in 1987.
It never, ever actually happens. Doesn’t stop the hoplophobes from saying it over and over again, because proof is not in their religion.
Same panicking from the same bunch.
The Gun Confiscation Lobby and their fellow travelers aren’t panicked, nor ignorant, what they are is vicious, venal, and live to control the lives of others.
They are a combination of the philosophy of the Puritans and those of the (((tribe))), Joe Lieberman and Richard “Hanoi Dick” Blumenthal are excellent examples of this.
