Cop Beats His Own Dog With His Fists, Chief Defends Handler
BY Herschel Smith3 years, 4 months ago
Via Wirecutter. This ridiculous report.
Okay, first of all, I don’t want cops to have dogs. I see absolutely no need for it. I don’t agree with their “war on drugs,” and most cops don’t have the temperament or training to handle dogs, horses, farm animals or any other living creature.
Second, this isn’t the way to train a dog. I know how to train dogs, whether positive or negative reinforcement. This isn’t training. This is just abuse.
Third, I’d say with certainty that the cop isn’t suitable for law enforcement work. I don’t know about the dog, but the cop must go. The jury is still out on the dog, but most dogs are a reflection of their handler. If the cop wants to understand why the dog did what he did, he needs to look in the mirror.
Fourth, the chief is a moron. Both the cop and the chief need to be fired.
That about covers it.

I saw a cop “trainer” working with an older German Shepard pup and what he was doing was criminal, as far as I was concerned. He worked that dog hard on a warm sunny day in the mountains, then, after he was done, put the dog in his black car, with no AC running. Nor, as far as I could tell, did the cop offer the dog any water.
I heard the cop bragging he was “one of the top trainers” in the area.
I knew better.

Abuse and torture of animals is a precursor to serial killer behavior.
If one is a serial killer and wants a paycheck, being a politician or a coproach is a terrific opportunity to draw and a paycheck and practice your illness whenever you please with no repercussions. The latter profession giving the more palpable immediate returns while the body count for the former can number in the millions.

If an armed agent of the government has no respect for the citizens to whom he owes his employment – and fealty – why would you expect him to have any respect for an animal assigned to him, for which he has full responsibility?
In a related issue, I can understand the desirability and usefulness of an animal with particular skills being employed to preform a particular task; Australian Shepherds and Border Collies, for example, are excellent at herding. I am very much less impressed by the use of so-called “drug dogs” in the made-up “war on (some) drugs,” and call into question the practice of law enforcement agencies classifying dogs as “sworn police officers” in order to increase the penalty level for harming one.
I have yet to see a dog raise a paw and recite the oath of office and demonstrate understanding of such an oath (which may not be an issue – too many humans in law enforcement do not understand it either); if someone has unimpeachable video of such an event I would welcome being proved wrong.

Cop should be arrested for “assault on an officer”, just like we would.

Usually a dog, who police say, made aggressive movements or attacked a cop wind up shot dead. So this dog may have been lucky.

Isn’t it a felony to hurt a police canine? Oh that’s right, cops are exempt from laws. My bad.

How long will it be, I wonder, before the citizen reponse to this is a bullet in the brainpan?
