By 1990 enough ranchers had complained about the prairie dogs in Eastern Montana that the government was set to throw poison down every hole in the state. Sportsmen jumped up and offered to handle the problem in a more precise manner.
After ten years of great shooting ( 1000 rounds a day, stop for lunch at 10:30 because it is stop for lunch or pee on the barrels time kind of shooting.) the population was greatly reduced and severely hampered by being forced underground to hide instead of being free to eat and breed.
Dad and I would have ranchers see us in a field and come up and say “Oh no, not this field, let me show you some real infestation.” If people want pigs off their land, start inviting sportsmen to shoot. It started small in Zortman, Montana but grew fast.
