John Paul Stevens On Brett Kavanaugh

BY Herschel Smith

News from The Far Side:

Retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens on Thursday said that high court nominee Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh, who Stevens once lauded in one of his books, does not belong on the Supreme Court.

Speaking to a crowd of retirees in Boca Raton, Stevens, 98, said Kavanaugh’s performance during a recent Senate confirmation hearing suggested that he lacks the temperament for the job.

The same man who said this.

That support is a clear sign to lawmakers to enact legislation prohibiting civilian ownership of semiautomatic weapons, increasing the minimum age to buy a gun from 18 to 21 years old, and establishing more comprehensive background checks on all purchasers of firearms. But the demonstrators should seek more effective and more lasting reform. They should demand a repeal of the Second Amendment.

Concern that a national standing army might pose a threat to the security of the separate states led to the adoption of that amendment, which provides that “a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” Today that concern is a relic of the 18th century.

I collect, cull and communicate the data.  You’re smart enough to decide.  On a positive note, it’s nice to hear that mankind is no longer affected by his sinful nature and his only intentions are good, all of the time.

Who knew?

Rather like former President James Earl “Jimmy” Carter, John Paul Stevens is an absolutely reliable weather vane where policy, law and other questions of great import are concerned. Without fail, Stevens – like Carter – can always be counted upon to point precisely one-hundred eighty degrees(opposite) from the truth. Stevens is a small-minded and petty man whose relatively lofty station in life could not and does not disguise that fact.

Justice Stevens’ comment reminds me it’s not standing armies that we need the Second Amendment for, it’s sitting judges.

MN Steel, many thanks for that link to Judge Napolitano’s presentation to the Mises Institute. Confirmed my suspicions about Kavanaugh being a creature of the Deep State who wears the mask of a “constitutionalist.”

For those interested in looking behind the curtain, here’s a link to an article the good Judge wrote that asks the question: “What if We Don’t Really Govern Ourselves.” Highly recommended.

The Only Legitimate Purpose for the Supreme Court, in My Opinion, is to Judge the Constitutionality of any Law in Dispute as to its Validity. This Y/N Decision MUST be made on a Strict Interpretation Basis of the Constitution, using as References the Writings of the Men who Wrote it.

Anything Else is just Using the Court as an Unelected Legislative Body.

Stevens was considered to have been on the liberal side of the Court at the time of his retirement.

Stevens is also known for his dissents in Texas v. Johnson, Bush v. Gore, D.C. v. Heller, and Citizens United v. FEC.
    [/quote]

Texas v Johnson – Stevens believes desecration of US Flag is okay
Bush v Gore – Stevens thought Gore should be president.
D.C. v Heller – Stevens thought us average law abiding citizens should NOT have Second Amendment rights
Citizens United v FEC – Stevens voted to allow the FEC to prevent airing of a negative film made about Hillary Clinton

So a former RINO, now known openly as a liberal, thinks a true conservative doesn’t have the temperment? LOL.
Stevens never had to face the kind of vitriol and hatred thrown at Kavanaugh.
Who cares what Stevens thinks? He’s just another tired old liberal trying to remain relevant.

I’m with GeorgiaBoy61, on this as well.

    All,
Pastor Chuck Baldwin, as quoted by ‘Ol Remus, “A Republican-dominated Supreme Court gave us Roe v Wade, homosexual marriage and Obamacare. In fact, Republican appointments have dominated the SC for the last 45 years. All of this talk about Republican presidents appointing pro-life, constitutionalist, originalist justices is just so much hot air.”

In fact, name one thing that the Republicans have undone, one thing they’ve repealed, one liberty that they have returned to its rightful owner, God.

Don’t forget ’86 under Reagan and the new Bump Stock ban creates a whole new extra-constitutional mechanism by which any thing can be banned and, Trump is fixin’ to make AR uppers require a 4473. Yes, they think they own you.

The choice between the Democrats on one hand and the establishment Republicans on the other can be illustrated by the metaphor of our nation as a train headed toward a precipice whose bridge is out. The Democrats are driving the train as fast as possible over the cliff, all the while denying there’s a problem at all. The establishment GOP are headed toward the same destination – the bottom of the gorge – only they are content to take a more-leisurely pace getting there.

Voting GOP buys us some extra time – that’s all. It doesn’t change the fundamentals of our predicament at all. That won’t happen, metaphorically-speaking, until someone stops the train and begins to think about turning it around.
