As I said before, Azzaman is on location. They are there, you aren't. They have contacts within Iraqi intelligence, you don't. I have followed their reporting for a long time now, and I have found that they are accurate (with the exception of biased commentary when it is given with the facts they report - I can usually spot the problems when they appear).

Valid point, valid supporting detail. If you wish to discuss this off line with me I would be glad to do it.

Yes, our miiltary has been quite clear that Iran is funding attacks; I don't doubt for a second that's accurate. But they do not have anything remotely resembling the kind of hegemonic control that would be required to turn all insurgent attacks on and off like a spigot. Most Sunni insurgent groups hate Iran.

Sunday.

I have found Azzaman to be somewhat anti-U.S., but generally accurate when simply reporting facts. Also compare:

But the calm that descended on the restive capital on Sunday and Monday night was unprecedented, analysts said.

Most MSM is not reporting this because it isn't true. There were several incidents on Monday.

Monday 3 March:
Baghdad: car bomb kills 22, Bab al-Muadham; suicide car bomber kills 2, Ghadeer; explosion kills 3, Waziriya; 5 bodies.

Excellent report, especially about the attacks stopping during the visit. As Michael Ledeen and others have been warning for years, the real war is with Iran and the sooner we recognize that the more likely we will succeed. But the administration is still in denial. We don't even have one fully-staffed brigade operating on the Iranian border right now to stop the transfer of funds, weapons and advisors into Iraq.

I have cross-posted your report at my blog, www.win-the-war.com, and have added you to my blogroll. Your blog is too good for folks not to know about. Thanks to you and to Jim Spiri.
